Calvary Baptist Church Pastor Hoke Smith celebrates 20 years

They came from far and near. They filled the pews of Calvary Baptist with spirit and the sanctuary with song. They gathered to celebrate 20 years of service from their pastor, his wife, and their powerful outreach. They lifted Pastor Hoke L. Smith up with their words and their outpouring of love.

Words of praise came from friends, congregation members and fellow pastors. Stories of “Pepper’s” early days of preaching were told, including his first days in Madison, and the gradual, but impressive changes his leadership has brought about within the church.

The heat of August pulsed outside, but inside, music and prayers pumped life into the group gathered in honor of a man they referred to as friend, teacher, apostle, leader.
