North Georgia Democrats to hold rally Sunday
Special to the Citizen
Nearly all Democratic candidates for federal office are expected to celebrate at the "For The People Rally" in Gainesville on Sunday, September 21. The event, scheduled from 1 pm to 5 pm, is a long-standing tradition for North Georgia Democrats.
Jim Martin, the candidate to unseat Senator Saxby Chambliss, will be meeting fellow Georgia residents while enjoying the fun and festivities that have become a hallmark of the event. Also expected to attend are Congressional Candidates Doug Heckman, Jeff Scott, and Bobby Saxon. All of these candidates are competing against incumbent Republican legislators in the North Georgia area.
In addition, Democratic candidate for Public Service Commission Jim Powell will attend. Powell has battled Secretary of State Karen Handel for a place on the November ballot. His struggle has been a rallying cry for Georgia Democrats.
The "For The People Rally" will be held at the Georgia Mountain Center in downtown Gainesville. The meet-and-greet with candidates will happen from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., with a full roster of entertainment and speeches to follow.
The color guard from Charlie Company in Gainesville will be providing musical entertainment prior to their second deployment to the Middle East, scheduled later this fall.
St. Paul's Methodist Children and Adult Choir will also provide accompaniment.
The Keynote Speaker is Congressman John Lewis, one of this generation's most accomplished political leaders.
Jane Kidd, former state legislator and chair of the Georgia Democratic Party, will also have a prominent role in the event.
All ages are invited to the "For The People Rally". Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door.
