County struck by earthquake

An earthquake measuring 3.5 out of 10 on the Richter scale struck Morgan County Tuesday at 1:04 a.m. The earthquake hit 35 miles south of Athens, as reported to Gwen Ruark, head of Morgan County Emergency Management, by the United States Geological Services National Earthquake Information Center.

As Georgia Emergency Management Services receives more information, they will release it to the county.

"It rattled my house," said Sue Anderson, who lives off of Highway 278. Ruark said that most of the activity was felt in Buckhead.

Ruark said that she received calls from people questioning the rumble and a loud boom.

No damage was reported.
