Hilda Johnson Bryan Gunnells

    Hilda Johnson Bryan Gunnells, 86, of Madison died Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at her home. She was born March 1, 1922 in Swords to William Adger Johnson and Mamie Dunevant Johnson. She worked for many years as a seamstress. Mrs. Gunnells was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her love of children.
    She is survived by three children, Irene Bryan Chaffin, Dorothy Saffold and S. J. and David Leon Bryan Sr. and Brenda; a son-in-law, Charles Hamilton, 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hamilton.
    Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 26 at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Ghann officiating.
    Her grandsons served as pallbearers.
    Memorial may be made to Faith Baptist Church.
    A.    E. Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Nell Virginia Davis Johnson

    Nell Virginia Davis Johnson, 87, of Tifton died Sunday, September 21, 2008 at her residence.
    The funeral service was held Tuesday, September 23 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Tifton with Dr. Glenn Martin officiating. Burial followed at Oakridge Cemetery.
    Grandsons and nephews, Jay Johnson, Chris Johnson, Jim Johnson, Felton Jenkins, Jim Hall and Duane Hall served as pallbearers. The Covenant Sunday school class of First United Methodist, the Tift Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and Mrs. Johnson’s loving caregivers served as honorary pallbearers.
    Born February 24, 1921 in Rutledge, Morgan County, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of James Joel Davis and Gussie Haile Davis, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elston Lowe Johnson Sr., to whom she was married July 15, 1947, one son, Elston L. “Johnny” Johnson Jr. and two sisters, Ruby Hall and Jimmie Jenkins.
    A longtime resident of Tifton, Mrs. Johnson was a 1942 graduate of the University of Georgia. She had been a member of First United Methodist Church of Tifton since 1947 where she was a member of the Covenant Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Tift Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. First and foremost she was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a friend to many. She loved cooking and providing for her family. Mrs. Johnson loved visiting her family beach cabin with her family and friends and enjoyed golf and tennis in her younger days.
    Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, James D. and Rhonda P. Johnson and Dr. Joel M. and Robin R. Johnson, all of Tifton; five grandchildren, Jay and Sarah and their daughter, Riley Nell of St. Simons Island, Chris and Carlie of Atlanta, and Joy and Jim Johnson of Tifton.

Pamela Huff Scruggs

    Pamela Huff Scruggs, 56, of 114 Stonecrest Lane, Gaffney, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 22, 2008 at her residence.
    Born in Athens, she was the wife of Steve Scruggs and the daughter of Juanita Burroughs Huff of Madison and the late Doyle Luther Huff.
    She was employed by Newark and was a member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church. She was an avid Clemson fan.
    In addition to her husband, and mother she is also survived by two daughters, Kimberly Dylan Hoy and husband Edward of Hartwell and Geanie Nicole Blanton and husband Joseph of Greenville, South Carolina; and a brother, Larry Huff and his wife Joanne of Marietta.
    Funeral service was held Thursday, September 25 at 11 a.m. at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Frazier officiating. Interment was in the Cherokee Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Cherokee Creek Baptist Church, 502 Buck Shoals Road, Gaffney, SC 29341 or to the American Cancer Society, Cherokee Unit, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
    Blakely Funeral Home of Gaffney, South Carolina was in charge of arrangements.

Aubrey Sellers

    Aubrey Sellers, 91, of Brunswick, died September 25, 2008 in Atlanta.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lottie Conger Sellers.  Mr. Sellers spent his childhood in Greene County.  He moved to Brunswick to work in the Shipyard during WWII.  He was an electrician with the Brunswick local IBEW until he retired. 
    He is survived by his children, Ann Price, Linda C. Collier, Jozie Lamb, and Charles Sellers;  nine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.  The family held graveside services in Tifton at Tift Memorial Gardens on Monday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Glyndale Baptist Church, 132 Butler Dr. Brunswick, Ga. 31523, or The Alzheimer’s Association.
