On the heels of a remarkable regular season, the Morgan County Middle School Lady Bullpup softball team entered the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament last Tuesday.

An overall season record of 7-4 put Morgan into the tournament.

The Pups hosted Carver Middle School in the first round. On September 9, Morgan defeated Carver by a score of 9-8.

Game two between the two would play out in similar fashion, with the Lady Pups squeezing out a seventh inning, one run 6-5 victory.

Dee Pittman got the Pups seventh inning underway with a walk. Morgan Hodgson would later hit a single that would drive in Pittman for the winning run. Maddison Busbee also had a key hit during the game.

Next up for the Pups was a semi-final matchup with Youth Middle School. Morgan lost 5-4 in the first matchup between the two.

This game would play out with Youth shutting out the Pups on the way to an 8-0 victory. Rebecca Webb and Busbee both recorded one hit a piece.

Morgan’s tournament would end with the semi-final defeat, leaving them with a third place finish in their conference.

“We were real tickled to get to the semi-finals,” Head Coach Julie Jameson said. “We feel like we had a very successful season, we believe we learned a lot about ourselves this year and we are looking forward to the beginning of next season.”
