Rain was not the only falling last Wednesday as the Morgan County Middle School Bullpups took the field to face Greene County.
An 18-6 loss dropped Morgan to 3-2 on the season, giving them an outside- looking-in perspective of the playoff picture.
Greene took the much needed victory with two key scores late in the game.
“We played well, we just got beat on a couple of big plays,” Head Coach Stacy Webb said. “We will regroup and try to focus on the basic execution of offensive and defensive plays.”
Defensive tackle Eric Williams had several key stops in the backfield, defensive back A.K. Shue had an interception and Stuart Spence recovered a fumble that ultimately led to the Pups only score of the game.
The Pups were scheduled to travel to Loganville Wednesday to face Youth Middle School, who stand at 4-1 on the season.
With four teams buying for a spot in the Piedmont Athletic Conference playoffs, the Pups headed into their final game needing a win over Youth to finish the regular season with only two losses.
As it stands now, Carver Middle, Greene County, Youth Middle and Morgan County are all fighting for a playoff spot. If Carver can defeat Greene and Morgan can defeat Youth, the four teams will all have two losses on the season.
The playoff tie-break is determined by the lowest amount of defensive points allowed. Right now, Morgan stands second.
