Lady Dogs seeded fourth in region

The Morgan County High School Lady Dog fastpitch softball team went into the Area Tournament looking to play well, and left as the fourth seed in Region 8 AAA.

The tournament was held last week at Oconee County High School.

The Lady Dogs finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, posting wins against Elbert County and Oconee County. Losses came at the hands of Stephens County and Franklin County.

“We had some ups and downs throughout the tournament, but I was pleased with our overall effort,” Head Coach Anne Stamps said. “We are in one of the strongest regions in the state.”

Stamps added, “To be able to place in the top four in the region and have the opportunity to play at the state sectionals is a great accomplishment for our team.I am very proud of the progress this team has made this season.”

Eastside finished the tournament seeded No. 1, with Oconee County No. 2, Stephens County No. 3 and Morgan County No. 4.

The Lady Dogs will meet up with Creekview High School, Friday at 4 p.m. at Lanier Point in Gainesville for the AAA North State Sectionals.

The winner of the Morgan / Creekview matchup will go on to face the winner of Riverwood / Central Carroll at 8 p.m.

The loser will be placed in the losers bracket and will play at 10 a.m. Saturday.
