Matilda “Tillie” White

Matilda “Tillie” White, 69, of Jefferson passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008.
A native of Oconee County, Mrs. White was the daughter of the late Nowell and Emmie White. She retired  from the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service. Mrs. White was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Robert “Bob” White; daughter, Robin Ferguson (husband, Bruce Ferguson) of Fleming Island, FL; grandson, Cole Ferguson of Fleming Island, FL; sister, Nancy Bone of Madison; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers was Tommy Bone, Jonathan Bone, Joe Turnell, Lewis Fortner, Jimmy Brown and Bob Spivey.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 28 at Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Rogers and Dr. Billy Owensby officiating.  Interment followed at Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support, 1199 Prince Avenue, Athens, GA 30606 or Sandy Creek Baptist Church, 160 Bob Holman Road, Athens, GA  30607.

Doris Griffith

Doris W. Griffith, 89, formerly of Madison, died October 28, 2008. She was married to Charles Edward Griffith who preceded her in death.
She was born April 23, 1919 in St. Louis, Missouri to William and Mabel Wright Kilgore. She worked as a supervisor for Western Bell. She was a member of Joy Baptist Church in Hull. She will be remembered for her love of music and her talent in playing the piano and organ.
Mrs. Griffith is survived by cousins, Mary Ellen Naylor, Marinell Hettrick, William Stewart, David Stewart and Susan Williams.
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 30 at Buckhead Cemetery with Rev. Barry Black officiating.

Charles Jarrell Sr.

Charles B. Jarrell Sr., 69, of Madison died October 28, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospice. He was born April 17, 1939 in Gray. He was the son of Charlie Franklin Jarrell and Salonie Greene Jarrell. He married Jane Masters on June 16, 1962. He lived most of his life in DeKalb County, where he worked for General Electric.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Mr. Jarrell enjoyed fishing and raising cattle. After his retirement from General Electric the Jarrells moved to Buckhead, where he raised rodeo bulls.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane Masters Jarrell and their two sons, Chuck Jarrell Jr. and Holly of Madison and Craig Jarrell of Buckhead; one granddaughter, Olivia Rose Jarrell and a sister, Elizabeth Brown.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 31 in the chapel at A. E. Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Hearn and Rev. Robbie Jarrell officiating. Interment was at Madison Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
