Spotlight Movie Theater, located at Lake Oconee, will be opening this month, just in time for the holidays.
The invite-only grand opening for VIP movie-goers will be held on Wednesday, December 17; both a family movie and a PG-13 movie will be shown. The theater will be open to the public on Friday, December 19, showing "Yes Man," starring Jim Carey.
The movie theater itself does things a little differently. The same line leads to both the box office and the concession stand. The theater adds the regular $8 to $10 ticket price in with the food price to get a total. The concession stand will have all of the usuals, plus some extras - hamburgers, chicken fingers, chicken sandwiches, even small salads will be offered. After purchasing a ticket and ordering some snacks, customers enter the Main Hall where food is picked up at a counter.
Moreover, this isn't the only reason Spotlight Theater is one-of-a kind. The entire theatre was decorated by interior decorator Tippi McMichael with Weinberger Furniture. A soothing color palette and elaborately decorated wall textiles line the theater halls.
Spotlight Theater is a fully digital movie theater, the newest technology to hit the industry. This will give the theater the opportunity to host video game tournaments.
“We're going to try and have some Madden tournaments in the theater,” said Dan Chun, general manager. Additionally, talks of airing University of Georgia games in the theater are in the works.
The theater offers childcare, for children between the ages of toddlers to five, in what they call the “Playroom.” This service will be available Friday and Saturday nightsfrom 6 p.m. to close.
There are two kinds of experiences at Spotlight Movie Theatre; the Main Floor houses your average movie-goers, while the VIP is on the second level.
“This is a growing trend in the industry. We’ve already seen theaters in Atlanta doing the same thing,” said Chun.
A VIP ticket costs an additional $10, or an annual membership. But, the VIP Level comes with access to a full bar and leather box seats in every theater.
“It’s going to be a great experience and a wonderful place to go to the movies,” said Chun.
