Everything up until Dec. 9 has been preparing the Morgan County Bulldogs for one thing, Region 8 AAA competition.
“We are in one of the toughest regions around, and all we can do is prepare the best we can,” Head Coach Charlemagne Gibbns said.
Last week, the Dogs hit the road for their first region match-ups of the season, against Franklin County last Tuesday and Jackson County last Friday.
Morgan came away with a 1-1 record, losing 92-60 to region powerhouse Franklin County, and winning 54-33 against Jackson County.
“I am glad we got to play Franklin County early,” Gibbons said. “They will be a good measuring stick for us to begin work on what we need to work on.”
Dexter Cooper led the scoring for the Dogs against Franklin with 21 points. Brian Green added 11 points to accompany his eight rebounds. Dee Elder and Terence Harper both added eight points, with Harper racking up eight assists on the night.
Against Jackson, Rashaun Franklin led the team with 18 points and eight rebounds, followed by Harper with eight points and six assists. Green added eight points to accompany his five rebounds, and Dell Stokes put up six points in the victory.
The Dogs were scheduled to host region opponent Hart County Tuesday. They will travel to Henry County on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Henry County Christmas Tournament
