The Morgan County Middle School Bullpups continue their winning ways entering the final stretch of the season.
A win over Loganville Middle School last Tuesday by a score of 31-28 was followed last Friday by a victory over Social Circle Middle School by a score of 45-14.
The two wins moved the Pups record to 6-2, with five games remaining in the regular season.
Against Loganville, strong defense made up for a lack of an offensive attack, that is until the fourth quarter.
Through out the first three quarters of play, the Pups only managed to put up nine points to Loganville’s 19.
“We came out flat with our offense, but our defense kept us in the game,” Head Coach Milfred Franklin said. “We took uncharacteristic shots which made our offense struggle tremendously. Our offensive play has been very inconsistent of late.”
The Pups offensive struggles ended with the start of the fourth quarter,  when basic playmaking  and key free throws turned out 22 points.
Loganville could not keep pace, and the Pups won by three.
“We were able to really get our offense going in the fourth quarter,” Franklin said. “Our free throws came up very big in the last munute of the game, which allowed us to keep the lead. I told the guys that I was proud that they didn’t give up because most teams would have.
Anfernee Waller led all scorers with 11 points, followed by Trent Hawk with six and K’Darius Dennis and Quantavious Williams added three points apiece.
The second half of the season began Friday against Social Circle, and the Pups were relentless, on both offense and defense.
Morgan outscored Social Circle 26-5 by the half, and 45-14 by games end.
“It was great to start the second half of the season playing a well rounded game,” Franklin said. “Everyone was able to contribute in some way throughout the game which was great for thier confidence. ”
Waller was the Pups leading scorer with eight points, while Hawk and Terry Simmons added seven.
The Pups will be out of action over Christmas break, where they hope to heal four of their players that sustained injuries.
The Pups next game is scheduled for Wednesday, January 7 at Youth Middle School.
