Elsie Browning Adair, 95, former resident of Greenwood, South Carolina and Madison, died at Heritage Healthcare of Athens on March 29, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Samuel Young Adair, a son, Major Samuel Young Adair Jr. and parents Oba Freeman and Lorayne Mobley Browning.

She is survived by a son, Oba Browning Adair and daughter-in-law, Francine of Maxey, granddaughter, Laura Adair Brown and husband Matt of Monroe, a great-granddaughter, Emily Adair Brown, a brother, Cecil O. Browning of Greenwood and Hilton Head, South Carolina, three sisters, Sybil Browning Traylor of LaGrange, Lottie Browning Hodges of Madison and Joyce Browning Wharton of Sumter, South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Adair was a former member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Greenwood and Madison United Methodist Church in Madison.

A private graveside service was held Wednesday, April 1at Edgewood Cemetery in Greenwood with Rev. James D. Dennis Jr. officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank, 640 Barber Street, Athens, GA 30601.
