BRAG’n on Madison

To the Editor:
It was a busy recycling weekend in Morgan County. On  Friday, Keep Morgan Beautiful recycled containers at the STMA BRAG stop. Then, on to the very fun Black History Parade in downtown Madison -- We thank everyone who recycled their drink containers there! Finally a Great American Cleanup along Apalachee Road, picking up and recycling litter from the Rainbow Store to the Recycling Receptacle in Apalachee. Next weekend, we hope everyone will join us at MadisonFest for Recycle Man’s public debut!
In regards to the newspaper article last week: I under–reported the total revenue. Morgan County’s total recycling revenue from July 2008 through Feb 2009 was $19,750.73. Of these monies, $1,407.50 was for bottles and cans, $5,877.00 was for paper, $12,434.73 was for scrap metal, and $31.50 was from motor oil recycling. This is just a small amount of what we could earn if we recycled more, helping to reduce our county government taxes. Join me in asking our commissioners to expand our recycling program to include other products, such as plastic bags, other plastics and cooking oil and to support ongoing recycling education in Morgan County.
Thanks for recycling!
