Allene Cross King
Allene Cross King died Friday, April 24, 2009. A memorial graveside service was held at the Madison City Cemetery in Madison Sunday, April 26, at 4 p.m.
She was born in Buckhead on April 26, 1918 to Janie and Allen Cross and lived most of her early life in Godfrey, a small community near Madison. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville with a degree in education. Mrs. King began teaching typing and English at Lanier Senior High School in Macon in 1960 and retired from teaching at Central High School in 1981. She also briefly taught in Pelham and at Tinsley Elementary School in Macon. She was a long time member of Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church on Bass Road in Macon where she was active in the Roberta Gardner Circle.
She was also a member of the Howard Community Club. She loved reading, gardening, cooking and watching sports. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband James B. (Jimmy) King, her two sisters, Sara Mae Peden of Cleveland, Tennessee and Bessie Lee Walker of Madison; and her brother E. C. Cross of Griffin.
She is survived by her three sons, Barry King (Brenda) of Mint Hill, North Carolina, Allen King (Blanche) of Macon, Mike King (Beth) of Villa Rice; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
