Net Pups get back on track with win over Social Circle

Staff Reports

After the tough loss last week on the road against Hart County, the Net Pups were hoping to rebound in their region opener this week against first—year newcomer Social Circle.

It turned out that the young Redskins were the right tonic for the ailing Pups.

The boys’ started things off with a win already secured as Social Circle forfeited the No. 3 and both doubles matches due to a lack of players. Things didn’t improve much for the Redskins as No. 1 Dima Yevseyev and No. 2 Alex Ellerbie swept to 8—0 wins and a 5—0 match sweep for the Pups (3—0, 1—0).

Inspired by the boys’ performance, the Lady Pups came out and dominated their match. Becca Tamplin returned to form as the No. 1 singles player with a 8—2 win. Caroline Seabolt and Katy Ellard made it a clean sweep of singles play with 8—0 wins.

Social Circle saved their best players for doubles play but ran into a Net Pup buzzsaw. In the fastest match so far this season, Caroline DeJarnett and Cory Byerly wiped out Julie Howard and Jesse Thompson 8—0 in 26 minutes. Rachel and Katie Sterrenberg also won their match 8—0 as the Lady Net Pups (2—1, 1—0) picked up the win in their first region outing.

The Pups match against Madison County scheduled for last Monday was canceled due to the weather but Morgan County will resume action Friday as they travel to take on Elbert County.
