Pup golf team dominates Oak Hills

Staff Writer

The Bullpups golf team came out strong last Tuesday at Hard Labor Creek, posting a convincing victory over Oak Hills Middle School in their first match of the season.

The team was unexpectedly led by Wesley Alsbrooks and Justin Denham, who turned in scorecards of 28 and 29, respectively, for the six-hole match, which was truncated due to time. After two double bogeys and a bogey to start off the match, Alsbrooks shot par on the next three holes for the team’s lowest score. Denham shot par on two holes.

Matthew Lindsey followed with a 32. Next were Locklin Bray and Brandon Langford, both of whom posted a 35, and Nick Smith, who turned in a 38 to round out the top six.

Alsbrooks’ performance came as a surprise to Head Coach Pam Turner, who expected Smith and Langford to lead the squad.

"We had a strong showing from our number five and six. That was a fabulous surprise," said Turner.

"For our first match, this was a strong showing. I’m expecting stronger performances from our top two golfers, Nick Smith and Brandon Langford. We’re continuing to work hard and looking to improve our individual scores in our next match."

The Pups teed off again Tuesday against Greene County and GMC, their last match until April 15.
