Deacon Taylor Hollomon Jr.
Taylor Hollomon Jr., 96, died Thursday, May 7, 2009. He was born January 16, 1913 in Greensboro. He was the first born to the late Taylor Hollomon Sr. and Margaret Terrell Hollomon. His six siblings preceded him in death.
At an early age he joined Gresham Grove Baptist Church, where he served over 70 years. He served many years as treasurer and chairman of the Deacon’s Board. He had a heart for his community and spent 12 years serving on the Morgan County Board of Education. He was also a longtime member of the GCMBA Lodge.
He moved to Morgan County at a young age and met the love of his life Jimmie Lee Robertson. They were joined in holy matrimony on December 25, 1938. They remained inseparable for 63 years of marriage until her death in 2001.
Taylor and Jimmie Lee were the proud parents of four children, Margaret (Amos) Jones, Madison, Alfonzo (Doretha) Hollomon, Riverdale, Dorothy Hollomon-Gresham, Atlanta, and Grady (Marilyn) Hollomon, Decatur; 10 grandchildren, Zonna (Paul) Fortune, Amos Bernard Jones, Treon (Christopher) George, Tyra Hollomon, Corey (Monique) Hollomon, Tangela Love, Tiffany (Nicholas) Johnson, Chad (Panithia) Gresham, Latoya (Patrick) Cutter, and Rodney Hollomon; 13 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Salina, Christie, Christopher Jr., Cameron, Blake, Danica, Anthony, Jada, Kalyce, Immanuel, Tyler and Taylor; and a multitude of loving family members and friends that will miss his love and presence.
Serving as pallbearers were Percy Adams, Joe Louis Callaway, Dennis Brooks, Larry Jordan, Benjamin Colquitt and David Colquitt. Serving as honorary pallbearers were his sons and grandsons.
Serving as flower bearers were Yvonne Colquitt, Margaret A. Terrell, Geneva Mack, Sarah H. Davis, Diane Wyatt and Emma Wiseman. Serving as honorary flower bearers were his daughters and granddaughters.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. at Jackson Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dante Smith officiating. Interment was in Robertson Cemetery, Bostwick.
Mapp-Gilmore Pyramid LLC was in charge of arrangements.
