John Preston Stapp, 93, died May 13, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was the son of Carey and Lottie Bell Few Stapp. He was born October 16, 1915 in Morgan County. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II in France and North Africa. Mr. Stapp worked for many years as a machinist for Wellington Puritan Mills. He was a member of Madison Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nellie Hall Willoughby Stapp; children, Geraldine Brown (Ted), James Willoughby (Sandra) and a brother, Chester Stapp (Latrelle); grandchildren, Darlene Hall, Ralph Willoughby, Billy Willoughby, Debra Wells, Jeanette McKenzie, Michelle Willoughby, Candance Thomas, Marsha Stewart, Drew Stewart, J. R. Palmer, Crystal Palmer, Tessie Holland, Angie Riffe, James Brown and Danielle Stapp Bruce; nieces, nephews and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 15 at Madison Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Ross and Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Interment was at Madison Memorial Park.

A. E. Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
