Classes of ‘45, ‘46 and ‘47 hold reunion

To the Editor:
On May 16 the Madison High School Class of 1945, 1946, and 1947 held their annual reunion in the Madison Presbyterian Church. A fine time was enjoyed by a gathering of 33 classmates, their spouses and friends. Carolyn Eaton caterer prepared a fabulous buffet. Just one former teacher / administrator attended. This being Maurice Thompson who began his career in Madison in 1947 in teaching. He also served as principal of the Buckhead School after the legendary Custer Crawford. He later served as principal of Madison Grammar School. This June 7th Mr. Thompson will celebrate his 93rd birthday.
The class of 1947 first met in the Clack Chapel area in 1988. After the reunion in 1992 at the Holiday Inn in Madison, Grayson White was asked to sponsor the class of 1947. He obligingly did this and made all of the arrangements for the reunion in 1993. His classmates, Louis and Sarah Mize then joined him as class sponsors. After a few annual reunions the classes of 1945 and 1946 were invited to attend. The three classes were very small and as years have gone by this uniting of the three classes have proven beneficial. The three classes celebrated their 64th, 63rd and 62nd years of graduation from old Madison High School.
It is of note and appreciation that Grayson White has sponsored this class, made arrangements for each reunion with other class sponsors and has been master of ceremonies for 17 straight years. It was derived that the next reunion coming in 2010 will, as usual be held in Madison on the Saturday after Mother’s Day.
