When Morgan County schools break from Monday, October 6 to Friday, October 10, school won’t be in session, at all.
Rutledge approves $430K budget for FY 2009

The Rutledge city council approved the city’s 2008-2009 budget during their regular meeting last Monday night.
The city expects to generate $432,000 from property taxes ($82,000), sales taxes ($155,000), franchise taxes, licenses and permits, among other streams of revenue.
Hotels not in favor of raising lodging tax

Representatives of Madison hotels were at the city council meeting Monday night to voice their concern over a proposed idea—it has not yet risen to the level of a plan—to raise the city’s hotel/motel tax rate from five percent to seven percent per night, per room.

BER prepares for record turnout

The Morgan County Board of Elections is preparing for what may be a historic election, at least as far as participation is concerned.
The board last week heard further reports from Bobby Howington, Morgan County Elections Supervisor, that the November 4 General Election is expected to generate more than a 80 percent turnout.
County recycling growing by leaps and bounds

Morgan County residents increased the amount of materials that they sent to an Athens recycling facility in fiscal year 2008 by 37 percent over fiscal year 2007, said county officials this week.
