Feeding the hungry, one Friday at a time

Madison churches and individuals are coming together to feed the hungry of this community, and they plan to begin by providing a free meal every week to those in the area in need of help and a meal.

Local tourism funding affected by poor economy, state cuts

    Georgia's tourism budget will be lessened by 21.3 percent for this fiscal year and this number is proposed to increase the next year, beginning July 1.
    But the Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau is set to find new ways to fuel their purpose of bringing people to Georgia.

Morgan Memorial shows $100,000 profit in February

    Morgan Memorial Hospital cleared a profit of $101,532 for the month of February. Discounting the monthly Morgan County stipend of $73,333 for the operation of the hospital and the hospital still showed a net profit of $28,199.

School system receives accreditation

    A team from the Southern Association of Colleges and School (SACS), now called AdvancED, visited the Morgan County School System in early March, concluding their four-day visit by recommending that the school system be granted five-year District Accreditation.

Goodwill drop–off point to open

    The beginning of next month, Morgan County residents will have a new place to dispose of their used (or new, but unwanted) goods.
    A Goodwill drop-off point will be opened at the Morgan County Transfer Station, on Athens Highway, beginning Wednesday, April 1.
