Downtown Madison, with its heavy car and truck traffic, can be difficult to navigate for pedestrians. But people on foot may have gotten a little safer last week, as the Georgia Department of Transportation installed new call buttons and pedestrian crosswalk signals at several intersections.

A frantic phone call from a Newborn Road resident led Morgan County and state authorities on a brief manhunt for a man who said he had stabbed a man in Atlanta and was now going to kill himself.
