Miriam Shaw Reeves
Submitted by editor on Thu, 07/16/2009 - 19:47.Miriam Shaw Reeves, 95, of Rutledge, formerly of Stone Mountain, died Saturday, July 11, 2009. Her husband, Hoyt Reeves, preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Horace Reeves, and his wife, Yvonne, of Rutledge; daughter, Loraine Campbell, and her husband, Kennith, of Loganville; son, Rick Reeves, of Buford; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 14 at Wages & Sons Stone Mountain Chapel with the Rev. Vern Coolidge officiating. Burial was in Melwood Cemetery.
Calvin Arnold Adams
Submitted by editor on Thu, 07/16/2009 - 19:42.Calvin Arnold “Jack” Adams, 85, of Winder died July 8, 2009. Mr. Adams was a native of Morgan County. He was born and grew up in Buckhead. He was born May 12,1924 to George and Mina Beasley Adams. Mr. Adams served in the Army during World War II. He married Ruth Powers on February 18, 1949 and spent his career as a truck driver for General Motors. He spent much of his adult life in Atlanta. He enjoyed fishing and restoring cars.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Adams, and their children, Jacqueline Adams Pascher of Anguilla, British West Indes; Roger Stephen Adams of Galveston, Texas; Terri Adams Smith (Stephen) of Locust Grove; and Betty Emily Bearden (Gary) of Summerville, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Keith Smith, Jeremy Smith and Joey Smith, and five great-grandchildren, Luke, Olivia, Miranda, Andrew and Shawn Smith.
A graveside service was held at Buckhead City Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11 with the Rev. Jeff Rogers officiating.

James Lamar Hickman
Submitted by editor on Thu, 07/09/2009 - 15:26.James Lamar Hickman, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 after a long illness. Mr. Hickman was a native of Colquitt County, Moultrie, and was born October 22, 1934 to the late Hartford Cortez and Pauline McGlohan Hickman. He was in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and a police officer with the Savannah Police Department. He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. He established and managed Southeastern Laboratories Chemical Company for 42 years.
Mr. Hickman served as a deacon at Leefield Baptist Church for 11 years. He was also instrumental in founding Lake Oconee Baptist Chapel in Buckhead, where he was in regular attendance. He served as a past president of the Morgan-Greene Gideon Camp and was involved in the creation of a volunteer fire department on Lake Oconee in the Morgan-Putnam County area.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Hallie Eleanor Wood Hickman; two children, James Hickman of Wilmington Island, and Aaron Hickman of Brooklet; three stepchildren, Linda Frazier Lovett of Griffin, Debbie Frazier Bush of Milledgeville, and Eddie Frazier of Buckhead; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. His sister Shirley Hickman Herring precedes him in death.
A memorial service was held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, at Lake Oconee Baptist Chapel, Buckhead. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the van fund at Lake Oconee Baptist Chapel, Post Office Box 7, Buckhead, Georgia 30625. Peachtree Cremation Society, Lawrenceville, Georgia, was in charge of arrangements.
Emma Marie Dantice
Submitted by editor on Thu, 07/02/2009 - 15:24.Emma Marie Dantice, 86, of Bostwick died June 26, 2009. She was a native of St. Louis, Missouri. During World War II she worked in Seattle, Washington, at an aircraft manufacturing facility. Later she was married to Claude A. Dantice, who preceded her in death. While in St. Louis she worked at the Veteran’s Hospital in the canteen. Mrs. Dantice was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she taught third grade Sunday school for 34 years. She was also active in the Women’s Ministry. Several years ago she moved to Bostwick to be near her family. Once here she became involved in Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the Ladies Bible Class. She also worked at the Clothes Closet.
She is survived by her children, Darlene Marie Graham of Nixa, Missouri, and David Dantice and Jeanette of Bostwick; seven grandchildren, Peggy Rickets, Jess A. Dantice, Carrie VanDeMark, John D. Graham, Charity Middleton, Mark Graham and Matt Graham; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sunday, June 28 at 3 p.m. at Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church. Interment took place on July 1 at Jackson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church.

Mary Light Byerly
Submitted by editor on Thu, 06/25/2009 - 16:06.Mary Light Byerly, 88, of Monroe died June 19, 2009. She was born in Louisville, Tennessee on March 17, 1921. She married Charles Foy Byerly, also a native of Louisville. Later they moved their family to Michigan and then Mrs. Byerly moved to the Atlanta area. She attended Harvest International Church in Jonesboro as long as she was able. She enjoyed the Senior Adult group at the church as well as reading, gardening and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two sons, Fred Byerly and Carol of Rutledge and Charles Byerly and Cami of Eliat, Israel; grandchildren, David Byerly (Kathy), Stephen Byerly, Cynthia B. Thompson (Mitchell), Kevin Slavens, Michele Byerly, Brad Byerly and Matthew Byerly; several great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, in the chapel at A. E. Carter Funeral Home.

He was born in Pickens County on September 30, 1924 to the late Colie Fox and the late Susie Wilkins Fox. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Fox of Monroe; children: Bobby and Evelyn Fox of Madison, David and Charlotte Fox of Monroe, Barbara and Terry Blalock of Nicholson, Sandra Jenkins of Madison, Danny Fox of Monroe, Geraldine and Michael Hodges of Nicholson, Linda and Bo McDaniel of Walnut Grove, Glenda and Randy Moore of Gray; sisters and brothers-in-law: Frances and Hugh Gravley, Shirley and Alton Beck all of Jasper, Rose Horton of Douglas, AL; brothers and sisters-in-law: Denton and Evelyn Fox, Jim and Pat Fox all of Jasper; 17 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 21 at 2:00 P.M. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Malcom officiating. Pallbearers were grandchildren: Tim Hodges, Brian Blalock, Ricky Blalock, Steven Fox, Chad Moore, Lee Jenkins, Chris Jenkins, Johnny Jenkins, and Jessie Jenkins. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
