William Taylor “W.T.” McBroom
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/12/2012 - 13:59.William Taylor “W.T.” McBroom, age 91, a lifelong resident of Barnesville, died surrounded by his family on September 23, 2012. Mr. McBroom died at the Medical Center of Central Georgia after a brief illness resulting from Acute Respiratory Distress. He was the son of the late William Taylor McBroom, Sr. and the late Viola Chambers McBroom, and was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
At the start of World War II, he entered the United States Army and served in the China, Burma, India Theater of Operations. Assigned to the 3844 Quarter Master Truck Company, he delivered supplies over the Ledo and Burma Roads as well as air supply of the Himalayas.
Upon returning from the war, he reentered school where he met his wife of 64 years, Jean Head McBroom. They had two sons: Bill McBroom and Keith McBroom.
Mr. McBroom was employed by the National Life and Accident Insurance Company, and retired after 29 years of service. Six months later he went back to work and was employed by Thomaston Mills for 10 years before retiring the final time.
Mr. McBroom was a longstanding member of Bethel Baptist Church of Milner, where he served as deacon. Although suffering from macular degeneration and blindness in his later years, he remained active and walked two miles daily until shortly before his death.
In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by his brother, William Ralph McBroom; daughters-in-law, Jan McBroom and Sheila McBroom; granddaughters, Callie Davis and Kathryn McBroom; great-grandchildren, Lola Grace Davis, Willow Ann Davis, Jack Davis, and Maci Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
Eurtis Cottrell Hamilton
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/12/2012 - 13:59.Eurtis Cottrell Hamilton, 80, of Madison, died October 6, 2012 after a brief illness. She was born on September 6, 1932 in Worth County. She worked as a seamstress. She was married to the late Thomas Roger Cottrell and later to Charles Hamilton. She enjoyed gardening and travel. She was a great cook and devoted mother and grandmother. Mrs. Hamilton loved her church and listening to gospel music.
Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her husband, Charles Hamilton and children; Jerry Cottrell, Helen Cottrell Couch, Raymond Cottrell and Anthony Cottrell as well as Jeff Hamilton and Scotty Hamilton. Her grandchildren are Jason Cottrell, Jody Cottrell, Josh Cottrell, Christopher Rowe, Anthony Cottrell, Tiffany Rhodes, Amber Vandiver, Rebecca Cottrell, Charlie Hamilton, Nick Hamilton, Michele Hamilton and Tanner Hamilton. She also leaves nine great grandchildren and 19 nieces and nephews. She is survived by a brother, A.G. Fowler and two sisters, Irene Carver and Geraldine Carter. She was preceded in death by Thomas Roger Cottrell and siblings, Thelma Vicker, Gene Fowler, Lorell Fowler and Hiram Bud Fowler.
The family received friends on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Sugar Creek Baptist Church. Interment followed at the church cemetery.

Sybil Dickson Abercrombie
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/12/2012 - 13:58.Sybil Dickson Abercrombie, 84, of Rutledge, died October 3, 2012. She was born on November 30, 1927 in Rutledge. She was retired from Delta Airlines. Mrs. Abercrombie was widowed by Paul Abercrombie and Harold Davenport. She was a member of Centennial Baptist Church. She loved to read and watch old movies. Mrs. Abercrombie enjoyed spending time on her computer and being with old friends. Mrs. Abercrombie is survived by two sons, Joe Abercrombie and Linda of Madison and John Paul Abercrombie of Covington. She has one sister Vivian Howard in Beverly Hills, Fla., as well as nieces and nephews.
The family received friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at A.E. Carter Funeral Home.
The funeral service was held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Entombment was at Lawnwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Covington. Rev. Wilburn Hill officiated.

Charles Douglas Schems
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/04/2012 - 18:28.Charles Douglas Schems, 59 of Buckhead, died September 23, 2012. He was a native of West Branch, Michigan. He was the son of Glenn and Marian Nichols Schems. He spent his career in construction.
He is survived by his mother and two brothers Glenn Schems and Dana of Rutledge and Rougalais Wolf and Bambi of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Grady K. Crowe
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/04/2012 - 18:28.Grady K. Crowe, 82 of Madison passed away Tuesday, October 2,2012.
A native of Hall County Mr. Crowe was the son of the late David E. Crowe and Nezzie Ivie Crowe and was preceded in death by brothers Ralph Crowe and James C. Crowe. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School and Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1961. Mr. Crowe was a licensed embalmer and funeral director for over 40 years in Madison. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of Madison Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Grace Crowe of Madison; sons, Gary Crowe and wife Katherine of Dallas and Keith Crowe and wife Amanda of Mansfield; grandchildren Lauren Crowe and Michael Crowe and bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren Danielle Minnick, Lex Hoffman, K. C. Hoffman, Steve Minnick Jr., Jordan Minnick, Nina and Daniel West, Jameson West, Katlyn Maxey, Brandon Maxey, Elliott Maxey and Sam Maxey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 in the chapel at A. E. Carter Funeral Home with Rev. David Shytle and Dr. Charles Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Madison City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 at A. E. Carter Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Michael Crowe, Frank Nesbitt, Ralph Crowe III, Roy Worley Jr., George Beckham and Tom Mroczko.
Ralph Crowe Jr., Bob Nesbitt and Gerald Wood will serve as honorary pallbearers.
