Kevin Mitchell Lashley
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/04/2012 - 18:26.Kevin M. Lashley, 47 of Madison, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012.He was the son of Earl Lashley and Patricia Hoskins Lingo. He was born October 3, 1964 in Boling Green, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Monroe Area High School in 1984. He was disabled but was a talented auto mechanic. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Mr. Lashley is survived by his parents Earl Lashley and Patricia and Patricia Lingo and Rodney; his children, Cassie Lashley, Kayla Lashley, Dustin Richard Lashley and Dustin Earl Lashley; one grandchild Cameron Kelley; a sister Karen Bone and Robert; two nieces, Brittany and Brianna Bone and a nephew Justin Peters.
The family received friends Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 6 until 8 p.m. at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. at Annie Mary Baptist Church in Monroe. Interment followed at the church cemetery.

Emerson Keith Malcom
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/04/2012 - 18:25.Keith Malcom, 91 of Bostwick, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012. He was born in Good Hope on March 11, 1921.He was the son of George Washington Malcom and Aubye Crawford Malcom. He was retired from the United States Coast Guard. After his military service Mr. Malcom worked as the Morgan County Tax Assessor. He was widowed by his wife Jessie Ruth Waters Malcom. He was a member of Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as deacon chair and Sunday school superintendant. He was an avid “coon hunter.” He raised registered Blue Tick hounds and sold them all over the world. He was instrumental in starting Full Cry, a coon-hunting magazine. He taught himself the trade of taxidermy and was a master gardener. He enjoyed building bird houses and playing his guitar and banjo. He will be remembered as having lived a very full life.
Mr. Malcom is survived by his wife Dorothy Gregory Malcom; seven children Brenda Walker, Beverly Sheridan, Bonita Malcom, Barbara Malcom, Bonnie Ferrell, Beth Woodruff and Greg Malcom; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; his siblings Billy Malcom, Doyle Malcom and Aubye Jean Gordon. He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie Ruth and siblings George W. Malcom, Berandt Malcom, Sybil Simmerson, Curtis Dillard and Howard Malcom.
The family received friends on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church. Interment followed at the Braswell Cemetery in Good Hope.

Virginia Inez Collier Jones
Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/02/2012 - 17:49.Inez Jones, 86 of Madison, passed away Monday, September 24, 2012. She was born January 29, 1926 in Mooresville, Texas to Ida May and Oscar Evelyn Collier. On June 14, 1943 she married Raymond “Monk” Jones and soon thereafter moved from Texas to Madison. Together they raised three daughters who all still reside in Madison. Mrs. Jones’ working career was dedicated to the Morgan County ASCS office for 35+ years. In earlier years Mrs. Jones and her husband were avid bowlers and bowled on various leagues for several years. After their retirement, golf became their passion. They were members of several golf associations in the surrounding areas. She was a member of Madison Baptist Church, the Eastern Star and the VFW Auxiliary.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband Monk Jones and five brothers and one sister. She is survived by her children Denny Jones Ewing and Douglas, Rae Jones Merritt and Charles, Laura Jones Smith and Bobby, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann Campbell of Austin, Texas and a brother Cotton Collier.
A Memorial Service was held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at A. E. Carter Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Ross and Dr. Charles R. Smith officiating.

Della Mae Bohlen
Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/02/2012 - 16:06.Della Mae Bohlen, 86 of Madison, died September 18, 2012. She was the daughter of Apolphus Young Sr. and Sally Peters Young. She was born April 24, 1926 in Bostwick. Mrs. Bohlen was married to the late Wilbur Lee Bohlen Sr. She was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. She loved to work in her yard tending flowers and her garden. Mrs. Bohlen also enjoyed cooking and canning. She will be remembered as a caregiver. She often cared for ailing family members and insisted on cooking for her family.
Mrs. Bohlen is survived by her children, Wilbur Bohlen and Linda and Mack Bohlen and Kay; her grandchildren Michelle Peters and Jeff, Lee Bohlen and Amy, Mandy Smith and Alan, Bubba Bohlen and Molly Tyree and Matt; her great-grandchildren Jessica and Maggie Brown, Virginia Kate Bohlen, Maddox and Maedie Smith and Makayla Tyree; her brothers A. M. Young Jr. and Beverly and Robert Young and Laurene. A brother William Porter Young preceded her in death.
The family received friends Thursday, Sept.20 from noon until 2p.m.at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment followed at the Madison City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Apalachee Baptist Church or Sandy Creek Baptist Church.

Helen Elizabeth “RoRo” Latimer Rutledge
Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/02/2012 - 15:57.Helen Elizabeth “RoRo” Latimer Rutledge, 88, of Rome passed away Wednesday morning September 19, 2012 in a local nursing home following a short illness.
A native of Bartow County, Mrs. Rutledge was born June 10. 1924 , daughter of the late William Fletcher Latimer and Hattie Bell Whitworth Latimer. She had been a resident of Rome most of her life, moving here in 1957 when her husband, Rev. Robert Rutledge accepted the pastorate of the Garden Lakes Baptist Church. Rev. Rutledge was the first pastor of the church. After Rev. Rutledge passed away, Mrs. Rutledge was employed as a special education paraprofessional at Garden Lakes Elementary School until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the Garden Lakes Baptist church where she sang in the choir. Mrs. Rutledge enjoyed camping, fishing, and cross stitch. She will be remembered as a kind, loving, and thoughtful person. Mrs. Rutledge was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert Rutledge March 17, 1976 whom she served with at the Powder Springs First Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Rutledge in Rutledge, and East Athens Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter- in-law Arthur Latimer Rutledge and Kay Ellen Rutledge, of Marietta; three grandsons Robert Christian Rutledge, Brandon Ty Rutledge, and Jonathan William Rutledge; six grandchildren Lane William Rutledge, Levi Griffin Rutledge, Giuseppe Latimer Rutledge, Robert Antonio Rutledge, Emily Jackson Rutledge, and Henry Ty Rutledge; nieces and nephews also survive.
Lucinda Thomas
Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/02/2012 - 15:55.Lucinda Thomas died Saturday, September 15, 2012. She was born February 16, 1935 to the late Hosea and Gertrude Thomas of Madison. From this union six children were born and she was the youngest and only girl of the six children. Lucinda had five brothers to precede her in death, Willie James, Charlie, Johnny, Willie Perk and Robert Lee. After the death of her mother she was loved and raised by her uncle and aunt, Willie and Cora Mae Thomas. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined Calvary Baptist Church in Madison. She attended the public schools in Morgan County.
Ms. Thomas worked at Best of All Foods in Monroe and Madison Foods Incorporated in Rutledge for over 25 plus years.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Garrell (Paulette) Thomas of Covington. At an early age she was blessed with another family, six sisters, Sarah L. Ingram, Nina Mae Peoples and Dorothy (Charlie) Mathis III of Madison; Annie M. Swain and Cora Carter (Ron) of Atlanta; and Maggie M. Butler of Lithonia; one brother Willie Ingram of Monroe; a sister-in-law, Joyce Campbell of Crewe, Virginia; a devoted nephew Ronnie Ingram Sr. (Ann) of Madison; garden buddies Betty Clark, Joann Sheats, Dorothy Mathis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service for Sister Thomas was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 22 at Plainview Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert F. Broughton officiating. Interment was in Madison Memorial Cemetery.
