Hallie M. Sims “Auntie”

Hallie M. Sims, “Auntie” as she was affectionately called by everyone was born June 15, 1910 in Greensboro to John and Sarah Sims.  She spent most of her adult life in Morgan County. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she served on the Ushers Ministry, the Mother Board and the Choir.
“Auntie” touched the lives of so many people far and near. She was a single lady who migrated to the city of Atlanta in her early years. However, sickness struck her sister Essie Bell and she made a choice to come home to care for her ailing sister. God called Essie home leaving nine children. God then enabled “Auntie” to become “mother” to these children. As the caregiver to her sister’s children she nurtured and taught them the values of life and how to be appreciative. She raised them to become productive citizens. She not only raised these nine children but has been influential in the upbringing of so many others including grandchildren and great grandchildren and children of her former employers as well.
“Auntie” leaves to cherish her memories six devoted children (nieces and nephews) Leroy Moore of Anchorage Alaska, James (Linda) Burston, Richard (Nita) Burston, both of Tampa, Florida, Lee Rogers Burston of Columbus, Hallie Matricia (Johnny) Strickland of Greensboro and Lucille Smith of Tampa, Florida; countless grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by three children Willie Zachery Jr., Bridie Pearl Hendry and Julie Bell (Doll) Ross and four siblings, Caroline Eley, Essie Bell Burston, Brixie Davis and JB  Blockum.
