William Jessie Earl Epps Jr.
Submitted by editor on Thu, 02/21/2013 - 19:55.William Jessie Earl Epps Jr. passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Born in Athens, on March 11, 1958, he was the son of the late William Jessie Earl Sr. and Mary Lela Burger Epps. He was an auto body repairman.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Futch Epps; daughters, Chandlee Elisha Epps, Twiggs Elizzabeth Epps, Kayla MiLyn Epps, Katherin Nicole Epps, and Angelina Rose Epps; sister Connie Epps Bond; grandson, Keyton Dailey Epps; and many nephews and nieces.
The family received friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Memorial services were held Friday, February 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Lord and Stephens Chapel with the Rev. Mitch Elder officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jessie Epps Cancer Fund, c/o Athens First Bank and Trust, or to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Corbitt Sargent
Submitted by editor on Thu, 02/14/2013 - 18:20.Mary Corbitt Sargent of Madison died Tuesday, Feb.6, 2013. She was the daughter of the late George and Viola Bell Corbitt. She was born December 11, 1930. She was married to Marvin Robert Sargent who preceded her in death. She was retired from Sears and Roebuck in Atlanta. After retirement the Sargents moved to Port Armour. Mrs. Sargent took up golf and earned the title of Club Champion. She was a very competitive person and loved a challenge. She enjoyed a number of outdoor activities especially working in her gardens
Mrs. Sargent is survived by her children Freda S. Thomas and Bruce, Ray Marvin Sargent and Ellen Ellard and Dale; grandchildren, Bruce Thomas Jr., Lisa Chesnut, R. J. Sargent, Kyle Ellard and Kathryn Ellard; a sister Sue Cliett. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin and a grandson Brent Justin Thomas.
A private memorial service was held.

Helen Miller
Submitted by editor on Thu, 02/14/2013 - 18:19.Helen Miller, 69 of Madison, died Saturday, Feb.9, 2013. She had fought ovarian cancer for six years. She was the daughter of Farris and Lucille Wright Reece of Rome. She was born March 5, 1943. She was married to Ronald Miller on April 7, 1962. They lived much of their married life in Clayton County.
Mrs. Miller worked as production manager for Atlanta Felt until retiring and moving to Morgan County. She was a member of Centennial Baptist Church where she was very active. She also enjoyed working in her yard. She served as a volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse. Mrs. Miller loved her family and friends and was always quick to offer help to those in need.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband Ronnie Miller and their children Stephanie Danburg and Kevin of Villa Rica and Beth Grubbs and Tim of Cumming; two granddaughters Casey Wheeler and Nikki Resnick and a great grandson Liam Jones.
The family received friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Centennial Baptist Church. The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Interment was at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens of Rome.

Charlotte L. Owens

She is survived by her husband, Weyman Owens, Covington; sons, Ray Owens, Atlanta, Andy Owens, Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Jim Daniel, Madison, Ala; grandchildren, Christina and Allison Daniel, Amber Owens, Payton Owens, Brad Owens; five great-grandchildren; brother, Bennie Lindsay, Conyers. Mrs. Owens was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13 at 11 a.m. at Crossroads United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Hannah Garrett-Johnson and Rev. Mike Morgan officiating; interment at Lawnwood was held at a later date. The family received friends Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel. John B. Buchanan Jr.
Submitted by editor on Thu, 02/14/2013 - 18:18.John B. Buchanan Jr. died February 5, 2013. He was the son of John B. and Annie Laura Warren Buchanan. He was born June 26, 1926 in Nashville, Tenn. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Europe during World War II. Mr. Buchanan was married to Gloria Miles Buchanan. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he was a nutrition specialist.
Mr. Buchanan served as an elder of Madison Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He loved to read and fish and enjoyed chasing hurricanes. He was a family man and took a great deal of pride in his two granddaughters.
Mr. Buchanan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria Buchanan and a daughter Melanie Laseter and Mike; two granddaughters Dr. Lela Ward and Kyle and Gloria Lynn Laseter.
A graveside service was held Thursday, Feb.7 at 11 a.m. at Madison Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Ghann officiated.

Regina Marie Thrash
Submitted by editor on Thu, 02/14/2013 - 18:17.Reginia Thrash died February 5, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born September 30, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Daniel and Regina Shield. She was married to William Herbert Thrash who preceded her in death. She was retired from Putnam General Hospital. She was a member of Rutledge Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and reading. She will be remembered as a very giving friend and a devoted mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Thrash is survived by her children Bill Thrash and Debbie and Sue Nelligan and Steve; grandchildren Jeremy Michael Thrash and Renea, Amanda Cheek and Jacob, Daniel Lewis Thrash and Lara, Joy Reinhardt and Aaron, April Rexroad, Dawn Nelligan, Melody Nelligan, John Nelligan and James Nelligan.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Feb. 6 at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb 7 in the chapel. Interment followed at Pinegrove Cemetery in Eatonton.
