Madison Police Department

    • On November 28 a simple assault complaint was filed at an Eatonton Road location after a man reported that as he was sitting at the bar at a Waffle House an unknown male approached him and asked him where the complainant’s girlfriend was located. The complaint said he was not aware of where the girlfriend was so the man “lunged at him and took a defensive stance.” The complainant said a heavy set companion of the man separated the two men at which time the man allegedly struck the complainant.
    • On November 24 a fraud complaint was filed at a North Second Street location after a man reported that he had been contacted by a man in Pennsylvania stating that he had received a $3,800 check from the complainant’s checking account but was signed by a man in Canada. A letter accompanying the check reported requested that the Pennsylvania man send the $3,800 to the Canadian man with the promise that the Canadian man would forward more money.
    The check was not cashed and no money has been lost, so far, the complainant said and the complainant’s checking account has been closed. Checks were also sent from the compromised checking account to Texas, California and Connecticut.
    • On November 19 a larceny from an auto complaint was filed at West Washington Street restaurant after a man reported that someone had taken a license plate from his 1993 Lincoln Towncar.
    • On November 27 a larceny from an auto complaint was filed at a Micha Way location after a woman reported that someone had entered her 1993 Honda Accord and removed a Pioneer FM/AM player. The unit is valued at $150.

    • On November 22 Bonita Wright, 37, Madison was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after officers were called to a disturbance on Vine Street. According to reports, officers responded to a report of a fight with a knife and gun. When they arrived they located Wright, reports state, “yelling abusive and obscene language.” Reports state that when an officer directed Wright to cease her behavior, she refused. Wright was handcuffed and placed in a patrol car. Reports state that a relative continued to yell at a crowd gathered but was removed from the scene.
    • On November 21 a forgery complaint was filed at a Commerce Street location after a man reported that someone had used his checking account information to cash a $600 check that he had no knowledge of.
    • On November 20 a burglary complaint was filed at a Fairground Road location after a man reported that someone had climbed a fence and removed approximately 30 radiators valued at $500.
    • On November 22 a fraud complaint was filed at a Poplar Street location after a man reported that a former employee had allegedly used company credit cards to purchase gasoline for personal use. The complainant stated that when he realized the purchases had been made he reviewed credit card accounts and also realized that a second credit card had been issued.
    The complainant alleges that the former employee’s son had used the second credit card. In total, the complainant alleges more than $10,000 has been charged to the company’s credit card without authorization.
    • On November 22 Latonya D. Woodward, 32, Madison was arrested and charged with shoplifting after she allegedly took a pack of Newport cigarettes from an Eatonton Highway grocery store without paying for the item.

    • On October 26 a larceny from an auto complaint was filed at an Eatonton Road restaurant after an employee reported that someone had removed her purse from her vehicle. The purse was later discovered by Georgia Department of Transportation workers at the 118-mile marker on Interstate 20. The woman reported that $100 in cash had been removed from the purse.
    • On November 13 Savin K. Shreve, 19, Andalusia, Ala., was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after an officer operating a speed laser on Georgia Highway 83 observed a suspicious silver truck in the parking lot of a closed convenience store. According to reports, the officer reported that he observed a man walking in front of the truck and then later another man walking from the back of the building towards the truck. The officer drove to the store to investigate and the truck pulled away. The officer stopped the truck and following the stop reported that he detected a strong smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a glass pipe, a partially smoked suspected marijuana cigarette and a complete marijuana cigarette. There were three men in the vehicle but reports state, Shreve told the officers the marijuana belonged to him. He was then arrested.
    • On November 11 a damage to property complaint was filed at a Burney Street location after a man reported that someone had struck the grill of his 2003 GMC Envoy with an unknown object and cracked the grill.

    • On November 8 a burglary complaint was filed at a Penor Street location after a man reported that someone had entered his residence through a side door and removed an X Box 360 video game system and 10 X-Box games.
    • On November 11 Stephens Ann Moncrief, 18, Greensboro was arrested and charged with minor in possession of alcohol and giving false information to police after officers responded to a call at the Eatonton Road Budget Inn. Consequent to the call, reports state, an officer observed Moncrief exiting a room and approached officers as they were attempting to mediate a different dispute. An officer reported noticing a strong smell of alcohol from Moncrief and reported that she allegedly misinformed an officer as to her identity.
    • On November 7 Lamar Stevenson Jr., 17, Madison, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct after officers responded to complaints of a group of youth standing outside an apartment allegedly smoking marijuana and possibly drinking. Reports state that when an officer arrived Stevenson allegedly threw the cigarette to the ground and attempted to run. Once he was secured he allegedly threw a small plastic bag of suspected marijuana from his pocket. Stevenson then allegedly cursed repeatedly at officers and requested that someone find his mother and bring her to the scene.
    • On November 5 Michael Todd Tadlock, 44, Hamburg, Arizona was arrested and charged with theft by taking after he allegedly took a work platform from an Eatonton Road truck stop and placed it under an existing load on his truck. Reports state that a man allegedly observed Tadlock placing the work platform under his load.

    • On October 26 a larceny from auto complaint was filed at an Eatonton Road convenience store after a man reported that he had received a call from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office informing him that the office had located his wallet in a purse stolen from a car at Cracker Barrel.
    The man said he realized that his vehicle had been tampered with when he noticed that someone had damaged his key entry on the driver’s side door of his vehicle. The wallet was found in a purse that had been reported stolen. Nothing was reported missing from the wallet.
    • On November 1 a criminal trespass complaint was filed at a Micha Way location after a man reported that someone had damaged his door while forcibly opening the door.
    • On October 28 Brittney Nicole Richey, 18, Madison, was arrested and charged with obstructing a court order after she allegedly had come within 300 yards of a woman who had a protective order for stalking against Richey.
    • On October 29 a larceny from mail complaint was filed at a Micha Way location after a man reported that his brother’s ex-girlfriend had moved out and had not returned a mailbox key. The complainant said that the woman and her mother had allegedly been stealing mail periodically.
    • On October 28 a larceny from auto complaint was filed at an East Jefferson Street location after a woman reported that her wallet fell out of her purse and into her vehicle without her knowledge. The woman said she had left the vehicle unlocked and when she noticed her wallet she also noticed that her driver’s license, Social Security card and $130 were missing.

Man robbed at convenience store

Staff Reports

    A 30-year-old man was threatened with being shot before being robbed of his wallet last Sunday morning.
    According to City of Madison Police Department reports, the man told authorities he was at the Chevron gas station on Eatonton Highway at approximately 12:30 a.m. when a black male wearing a grey hooded sweat shirt approached the man in the parking lot and asked for directions to Atlanta and $2.
    The man said he entered the convenience store with the suspect, showed the suspect directions using an Atlas in the store, gave the man $2 and then exited the store.
    Reports state that when the man and the suspect left the store, the suspect then followed the victim around the corner and threatened to shoot the complainant if he did not give him his wallet. The victim said he gave the man his wallet and the man fled to a red Honda. The victim said he asked the man to throw him his driver’s license and the man threw the entire wallet out of the car. The man said the suspect took $200 in $20 bills from him. The complainant said he then drove around Madison for approximately 40 minutes attempting to locate an officer. He located an officer on Georgia Highway 12. The officer asked the complainant why he had not called police and the complaint said he did not have a phone.
