The Morgan County Commission unanimously voted to share surplus office equipment with the City of Madison to benefit work at the Gilmore House on Burney Street.

The Madison Downtown Development Authority has been working to transform the house into a multi-use facility to include a corner grocery store, a cannery and commercial kitchen, residential space and incubator spaces for new businesses.

County Manager Michael Lamar recommended support of this project.

Chair Ellen Warren agreed: “What they are doing will help more than the city’s citizens.”

As to the county’s budget, commissioners approved the second reading of their 2013-2014 budget.

Resident Brent Walker said the commission missed the boat when it came to getting public input.

“Fresh eyes could look at it,” he said. “Taxpayers have to cut back, government needs to cut back, too.”

Warren said the commission has talked about creating a citizen committee to do just that.
