Several members of the Morgan County High School Hoop Dogs had the opportunity this summer to compete in regional and national programs. CJ Turman, Tookie Brown, Jaylin Ingram, and D’verious Brown were all chosen to participate in programs sponsored by Nike and Adidas, where they could attract attention from college and NBA scouts.

Turman participated in the Nike Global Challenge, which took place in Washington D.C. on July 17-21. Turman was one of the 40 American players to be chosen and was able to play against the top 40 players from Canada, Brazil and France, among other countries.

According to MCHS Hoop Dog Head Coach Charlemagne Gibbons, Turman was one of only three players picked from the state of Georgia, and that the Nike Global Challenge is one of the only events that can be attended by both NBA and college coaches and scouts.

Tookie Brown competed in the Nike Peach Jam 16 & Under tournament on July 10-14 in Augusta. The Nike Peach Jam is Nike’s signature event for underclassmen, and Coach Gibbons stated that, “The top division 1 coaches from around the country were in attendance at the Peach Jam to scout players.”

Brown also attended the Amateur Athletic Union Super Showcase in Orlando, Fla., which brings the top 16 teams together from across the country, according to Gibbons.

Jaylin Ingram and D’verious Brown have attended several Adidas events across the country this summer. Most recently, they attended the Adidas Invitational Classic in Indianapolis. Last week, they flew out to Las Vegas for the Adidas Super 64, which took place July 24-28.

“Schools such as Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Clemson, Mississippi State and many other have been on hand at these event to scouts these guys,” said Coach Gibbons about the four athletes. “This has been a great opportunity for these guys throughout the summer.”
