Schools to hold beginning-of-the-year events

Morgan County public school students begin the school year Thursday, Aug. 8, but Meet the Teacher and open house events continue after that date.

Morgan County Primary School (MCPS) will hold their Meet the Teacher date on Wednesday, Aug. 7, the day before school starts.

Parents of Pre-K students should come to the school from 9-10 a.m. that morning for orientation and a chance to meet their student’s teacher.

Parents of Kindergarten students should report to MCPS to meet teachers from 3-4 p.m.; and parents of first and second grade students, 4-5 p.m.

MCPS will hold parent orientation sessions for parents of first graders on Tuesday, Aug. 13; parents of second graders, Thursday, Aug. 15; parents of Kindergarteners, Tuesday, Aug. 20. All of these sessions go from 4-5 p.m. Additionally parents of Kindergarten through second grade English as a Second Language, or ESOL, students can come for orientation Tuesday, Aug. 22, 4-5 p.m.

Morgan County Elementary School will hold a Title I open house Tuesday, Aug. 20 for parents of third grade students beginning at 5 p.m., then for parents of fourth and fifth graders beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Morgan County Middle School will hold their Meet the Teacher and open house event on Wednesday, Aug. 7, the day before school starts, for sixth graders’ parents at 3 p.m., then for the parents of seventh and eighth graders beginning at 4 p.m.

Morgan County High School will host an open house on Monday, Aug. 12 – that’s after school officially starts – for parents of all grades of students from 6:30-8:15 p.m.

Representatives of the school system’s Transportation Department will be present at all of these events to help parents with the details of riding the bus.
