By T. Adrienne Terrell
Greetings from the Springs! Join us as we welcome Deacon Tom and Sister Gloria Carroll to the family. They are transplants from New Jersey and are already off and running continuing their work for the Lord. They were officially introduced to the congregation and we all look forward to getting to know them.
Nursing Home Ministry
Saturday, Aug. 17 the weather was cloudy and raining. I won’t complain! I went down to do our Nursing Home Ministry. We had a few to come out but that was okay. When the Lord is in the mist of it all that’s all it takes to get His work done and we did it. Our spokesman for the morning was Evangelist Lizzie Stokes and Willie Ann Johnson due to the fact that Evangelist Stokes had to bring the Word so I took charge. Prayer was by Mother Mary Weaver; scripture by Sis. Willie Ann Johnson; song by Sis. Hazel Lunceford “Beulah Land”; words of encouragement by Sis. Tammie Jackson and Sis. Linda Cumming – Glad to be here; song by Sis. Hazel Lunceford; the word by Evangelist Stokes, Psalm 105 “give all thanks unto the Lord for He is worthy to be praised.” Closing song, “Jesus Love Me.” Evangelist was in charge of the dismissal prayer. Always remember bite your tongue before making a biting remark. Praise the Lord!
The pulpit on Sunday was Minister Tony Cole who is the Associate Pastor of Travelers Rest in Morrow. He is related to the Worrell, Mathis and Hubbard families and it was great having him worship with us.
Pastor Terrell announced the start of the Springs Mentoring Program. This group will be spearheaded by Bro. Demetrius Mathis and will meet on Saturdays at the church. I will update you soon on the actual date and time for the first session.
Our ministers were on the move again Sunday. Minister Derrick Worrell spoke at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Minister Gary Walker spoke at Living Waters Missionary for their Youth Day Program. I missed their programs but I am sure that they delivered great messages.
Wednesday’s Bible Study was on The Tabernacle. Pastor Terrell explained all of the items placed in the temple and their uses. Every piece of furniture was placed there for a reason. Also, he discussed the two main sections, which were the sanctuary and the Holy of Holies.
Did you know that there were no windows in the tabernacle? The source of light was the gold lamp stand, which had seven candlesticks. This sacred item also represented Christ.
Sunday we had another wonderful sermon by Rev., Terrell based on I Peter:4. Peter begins this discussion talking about the new converts that wre just saved. These people have just started on the path of following Jesus but there are others around them that don’t understand them and their new life. The ones that had chosen a new life in Christ often get talked about by those that are around them.
When they make the change we need to tell the new converts to arm themselves. Now we arm our cars and our homes so why can’t we arm ourselves. They need to be prepared when people start talking about them.
Verse 4 reads, “In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.” It is not that their old friends are mad at them but they are mad that they don’t hang out with them any more. They can’t understand the change.
One of the best ways to protect ourselves is to totally saturate ourselves in love. We need to have the love of Jesus covering us. Love covers us when they start to talk about us when they lie about us or even set traps for us.
The key verse for his message was verse 12 which states, “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happen to you.” The test has come to prove you. And don’t think that you are alone in this testing. We all get tested in some way but we have the Lord on our side.
Pastor Terrell said we are being proved in two ways. First, God proves us by being right there with us. Also He proves to the world that we are with Him. When God proves this to us nothing can turn us around.
As you go on in life remember when you walk in the door they may not like you but they have to respect you because God had proved you. Just like I stated earlier, when God proves to you that He is with you and has proved to the world that you are with Him you will earn respect because of whom you are with. So keep yourself armed and be ready so you won’t be surprised by the test! Glory Be To God!
