Momma is flat fit to be tied! She’s huntin’ up every spare, ding dang dime y’all! Plus she says she’s goin’ on the spendin’ spree to end all spendin’ sprees! That’s right y’all! There are end-of-summer sales goin’ on all over Morgan County! But, that ain’t all y’all! I’m talkin’ ‘bout the huge Estate Sale happenin’ this Saturday, Sept. 7 beginnin’ at 11 a.m. at the old Ye Olde Colonial restaurant building at 108 East Washington Street! I’m ain’t kiddin’! It’s the Joe Cunningham Estate Sale put on by Ole Hound Auction House! OK so there’s gonna be antiques, pottery, confederate money, antique bottles and advertising, tools and a whole lot more! Lord have mercy! That Keith Rex just never winds down! I mean he’s always up to something and this week Keith wanted me to let all ya’ll in on a little secret: Jacks & Kings is flat openin’ up this Friday! That’s right y’all! Morgan County’s first consignment shop for men located at 125 West Washington is finally a reality! My handsome husband cannot wait to see what’s in store for him! Y’all check it out!

Oh and not so fast . . . a little birdy just told me Keith has snapped up the lease on the Destination Antiques building next to In High Cotton on West Jefferson Street in downtown Madison! Honey Keith won’t tell me a ding dang thing ‘bout his plans even though he knows I’ll keep a secret! Oh well… y’all just keep watchin’ this column for details!

Attention all Artisans! A brand spankin’ new shop is fixin’ to open at 125 West Jefferson Street, in downtown Madison next to Pure Bliss Spa! Anyhow, this new shop is called Canavan Home & Arts and owner Anne Redmond is lookin’ for artisans to fill up her shop with handmade merchandise! So if you create any type of art, please call Anne at 604-744-6376 or shoot her an e-mail at and tell her all about it! Anne says she plans to create an Etsy-inspired shop right smack here in Madison! Check out her ad in this week’s Citizen!

Voting has BEGUN! Loads of local Morgan County businesses have been nominated for the Lake Oconee Living magazine’s “Best of Lake Oconee” edition that comes out in January of 2014! Y’all check it all out! I mean we have more local nominations than we’ve EVER HAD BEFORE! Y’all check it all out at! Don’t forget to vote!

Hey y’all, don’t forget the Ninth Annual Madison Chili Cookoff is fast approachin’! It’s all slated to get right spicy on Saturday, Oct. 5! Callin’ all cooks! Deadline for cooks to enter is Sept. 20! Contact the City of Madison for your entry form at 706-342-1251 (x208)! Y’all sign up so when Hot Off The Presses wins we can say we won against a the big ole bunch of dang cooks! Right, so anyhow, this great event takes place at Town Park in Madison and is tons and tons of FUN for both cooks and for all the folks who come out to taste the chili and vote on People’s Choice! Hey and everything has to be cooked on site! Frozen chili cheaters will be disqualified! Yikes! I can taste VICTORY! Yes! I’ll see all y’all out there this year! Public tastin’ begins at 12:30 p.m.! To participate in the tasting and voting, you will need to buy a wrist band and a ballot for $3! Get there early y’all! Each team makes about three gallons of chili and it runs out right quick!
