On Sept. 4, the Morgan County High School Lady Dogs put Athens Christian behind 12-5 before losing to Eastside 6-8 during pool qualifying games for the Lady Dogs Invitational medal games, which will take place this Saturday at Heritage Park.
After the Lady Dogs secured their 12-5 win over Athens Christian for the first game in a double-header, they got a quick lead over Eastside with two runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI triple by Aubree Cox and an RBI by Laree Van Orden.
Eastside tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning, and then added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Morgan County tied the game up again in the top of the fifth, with an RBI double by Cox and an RBI double by Laney Crawford.
Eastside scored three more in the bottom of the fifth, and then another in the sixth to make the score 8-4 in their favor, but the Dogs made one final push in the top of the seventh to come back, scoring two runs on an RBI single by Carly Hodgson.
However, the inning ended with a strikeout and the Dogs still behind 6-8.
On Sept. 5, the Dogs were back at Heritage Park to face region opponent East Jackson, whom they beat 13-9.
After scoring three runs in the first two innings against East Jackson, the Lady Dogs scored seven runs in the third inning for a 10-1 lead.
East Jackson added five runs in the fourth, but they were still far behind Morgan County at 10-6.
Van Orden hit an RBI single in the sixth for the Dogs, and Elizabeth Couch, who had hit a solo home run in the second inning, hit an RBI single as well to make the score 12-6.
East Jackson managed three more runs in the sixth inning, and the Lady Dogs added their last run on an RBI single by Crawford in the seventh to make the score 13-9.
Tuesday, the Lady Dogs played Jackson County at home, and they play Elbert County today in Elberton at 6:30.
This Saturday, Morgan County will hold the Lady Dog Invitational, with times to be announced at the weekend nears.
