As one door closed, another opened for former Southern States Manager Walt Pearson.
Pearson, a 14-year veteran with Southern States prior to the company closing the Madison location, was recently hired to manage fertilizer, seed and chemical operations at Madison’s Godfrey’s Feed and Seed, East Jefferson Street.
“He’s going to be doing the same thing he used to do just at a different address,” said Whitey Hunt, vice president, Godfrey’s Feed and Seed.
Pearson comes to the job with an Ag Economics degree from Mississippi State University and a wealth of local experience.
He said he welcomed the opportunity to work at Godfrey’s Feed and Seed. “These are good people,” he said.
Godfrey’s Feed and Seed has been in operation since the 1870s, Hunt said. It currently employs 35 people.
Pearson said he hopes to continue to serve the agricultural community as a representative of Godfrey’s Feed and Seed.
