An argument over telephone use and a bank card escalated into a stabbing last Sunday afternoon.

According to Madison Police Department reports, Jimmy Lee Binion, Sr., 54, was arrested at approximately 2:30 p.m. after he allegedly struck a 50-year-old woman with a glass ashtray and then stabbed her in the left shoulder.

Reports state that officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a Maple Street residence and, while en route, were notified that a woman had been stabbed. The officer reported locating the woman on the floor near the front door of the residence. Reports state that she was having problems breathing because of an asthmatic condition. The officer noted two slits cut into the woman’s blouse near her left shoulder.

The officer found Binion, Sr. also on the floor in the kitchen. A witness said Binion, Sr. had become upset because the woman would not stop talking on the phone and would not give him his bank card. The witness said Binion, Sr. then allegedly struck the woman on the side of the head with the ashtray. The woman pushed Binion, Sr. down and then both got up and walked toward the kitchen, the witness said. Binion, Sr. then allegedly grabbed a knife from a kitchen drainer and stabbed the victim.

Binion, Sr. faces two counts of aggravated assault stemming from the attack.
