Zack Stone takes sixth at Athens Academy for MCHS

At the Athens Academy Home Meet, held last Thursday, Sept. 19, five members of the Morgan County High School (MCHS) Cross Country team placed in the top 20 positions in the Boys’ 5K and Girls’ 5K races.

For the Boys’ 5K, Zack Stone led the MCHS team with a time of 19:22.20, earning him a sixth-place finish. Luke Zimmerman came in ninth place, close behind Stone with a time of 19:33.03.

Next in the Boys’ race was Wyatt Howard, who took the twenty-fifth spot at 21:02.39.

The MCHS boys’ team as a whole took fourth place out of nine teams, averaging 21:02.39 on the 5K race.

Yakira Chapman led the MCHS girls in their 5K. Chapman took 12th place with a time of 25:50.40.

Jessie Pagett wasn’t far behind, placing 14th at 26:18.90. Carolina Zant was the final runner to get into the top 20, finishing in the 20th place with 26:40.66.

The MCHS girls finished fourth out of seven as a team, compiling an average time of 27:39.83.

This Saturday, Sept. 28, the MCHS Cross Country team will travel to Conyers for the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational at Heritage High School.

On Oct. 10, MCHS will host the first of two home meets for the 2013 season. The second will take place on Oct. 22. Event times for the first meet will be included in next week’s edition.
