Obituary: Fern Elizabeth Worthington

Fern Elizabeth Worthington (nee Work), 95, passed away October 1, 2013 in Eatonton.

She was born in Coudersport, Penn. on May 21, 1918 the daughter of Royal Work and Mary Smith Work. She married Robert Worthington on June 20, 1941 and thereafter lived in both Pennsylvania and New York states. He was a pastor and he and Fern served at many churches in Eddyville, New York, Portville, New Pork, Perth, New York and Champlain, New York. She taught Bible classes for many years, including later in her life when she and Robert lived in Murfreesboro, Tenn. After retirement they lives in Oak Park, Ill. and then in Madison.

In addition Fern had worked over the years at several church related organizations including Baptist Bible College and Seminary, Clarks Summit, Penn. as a bookkeeper, at Bible Pathway in Murfreesboro as a bookkeeper and then as a volunteer in the Correspondence Department at Source of Light Ministries, Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Raymond Work and her husband. She is survived by three children, Marianne Rosenberger of Madison, Neal Worthington of Bogart, and Etta Worthington of Forest Park, Illinois, and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A fourth child, Stephen passed away at birth.

The burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory at either Source of Light Ministries ( or Heifer International (
