• “Full Moon Carriage Ride,” 7-8 p.m. at Hard Labor Creek State Park. Take in the beauty of a full moon at Hard Labor Creek on a relaxing carriage ride. Meet up will be at the beach parking lot. Cost: $5 plus $5 parking. Call 706-557-3001.

• Champion the lung cancer cause by registering today for the sixth annual Free to Breathe Athens 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Walk on Nov. 16 at Sandy Creek Park, 400 Bob Holman Road, Athens, GA 30607. 7:30 a.m., registration and check-in; 8:15 a.m., announcements and warm-up; 8:30 a.m., 5K Run begins; 8:45 a.m., 1-Mile Walk begins; and 9:30 a.m., rally and awards presentation. The inspirational event will bring the community together to raise funds that will fuel groundbreaking research necessary for making the dramatic breakthroughs in early detection and treatment that can save lives. All proceeds support the National Lung Cancer Partnership, a non-profit organization dedicated to doubling lung cancer survival by 2022. • Newborn Dixie Jubilee at the Historic School House at 4326 Hwy. 142, Newborn. Doors open at 5 p.m. and shows run 6-9 p.m. Where There’s Smoke BBQ will be there. • Holiday Crafts Show and Jewelry Artisan Showcase 12-5 p.m. at the The Morgan County African American Museum featuring craftspeople from different fields, baked goods booth, and the Jewelry Artisan Showcase will feature a local jewelry artisan, Rita Knight.

•Family Workshop: Fused Glass Ornaments at MAGallery . Create beautiful keepsake ornaments out of glass!  No skills required. Instructor Greta Beech brings all supplies, you create, she fuses in kiln and returns your unique creations in about a week. It’s as simple as decorating cookies, but these will be enjoyed for years to come.  Children 5 and up welcome with supervision; teenagers through adults encouraged to come make a special gift.  Ornaments are $10 each.  Class begins at 3:00pm

• Abandoned Rural America , the American Small Family Farm in Transition Artists Reception Saturday, November 16th at 6 pm. Meet the artists, enjoy southern-style refreshments and immerse yourself in times gone by. The reception is free and open to the public. The accompanying video presentation will commence at 7 PM. The concert will feature young musicians from all over North Georgia in works by Schubert, Mascagni, Berlioz, Hans Zimmer, and John Williams. The concert is free and open to the public. • Family Workshop: Clay Santa or Angel Sculpture at MAGallery Create a beautiful sculpture your family will treasure! Chuck Hanes and Elizabeth Collins of Beauty and Beast Art lead this workshop where participants will create a one of a kind clay sculpture of an angel or santa. All ages are welcome, but young children will need adult assistance. Fee is $35 per angel. Class begins at 2:00pm

Monday, Nov. 18

• Fundraiser for state Senator Burt Jones at 5:30 p.m. at Variety Works in Madison. Suggested contribution will be $100 per couple.  More details to come. This will be a great way to spend some time with this rising conservative leader.

Tuesday, Nov. 19

• The Morgan County Democratic Committee will host an “Understanding the Affordable Care Act” meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. in Madison. ACA Navigator Harold Weber, a retired Athens insurance salesman of many decades, will speak and answer questions. All are invited. Place to be announced.

• Tickets available for the FREE Community Holiday Concert. The Ashburn Chorale headlines local performers as they present holiday favorites on the Center’s stage Friday, December 13, 2013 at 7:00 PM.  This Holiday Concert is a FREE ticketed event.  Tickets must be picked up from the Cultural Center in advance. Starting Tuesday, November 19th through the evening of December 12th, non-members and members may pick up their tickets for the concert (with a limit of six tickets per family) at the front desk of the Cultural Center during normal business hours.  Once capacity for the Auditorium is reached, tickets will no longer be available.  Call 706-342-4743 for more information.
