Sunday morning attendance was good; visitors were present. They add a blessing to the service by being with us and we pray they will be blessed as well and will continue to come. The call to worship was, “Arise, shine the Morning has Come,” by James Butler. The congregation sang Christmas hymns.
The choir presented a “Medley of Christmas Songs.” Bro.Ron’s message, “The Name Jesus,” John 1:1-14. Jesus Christ is the Word; the word declares to us Jesus is the Son of God. We see that Jesus is the divine Word, can change our lives, it expresses a thought, in V.14 the Word becomes flesh, Jesus explaining who God is in person.
The person of Jesus is God eternal, equal and essential. Jesus same essence as God. Jesus came to earth to conquer death, to change hearts, He is the light of the world, the power of God creates, we can see this in many ways especially in nature, communicates a message to us, the life of Christ was the light of men. The Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
The church delivered fruit baskets to several sick and shut-ins during Thanksgiving. They were so thankful and happy knowing someone remembered them during these days. Next Sunday night Dec.8 Brownwood’s choir will present a Christmas musical at 6 p.m. Refreshments and fellowship afterwards in Family Life Center. Brownwood don’t forget if you are bringing Christmas cards to church bring them early.
What we normally would spend for postage we are giving that to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. We will have a Christmas Eve service Tuesday evening, Dec. 24 at Brownwood Baptist beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday night, Dec. 29 we will have the fifth Sunday Night singing at Brownwood at 6 p.m. Food collections will go through December and will be donated to people in need. Julie and Billy Phillips and Margie Ward enjoyed Thanksgiving Thursday in Athens with extended family members at the home of Alice Cheatham, Margie’s sister. Everyone had a great time.
Around 30 attended. Sonny, Mary, Rebekah, Rachel and Zach Wood spent Thanksgiving in Cincinnati, Ohio with Sarah and James Folsom. They returned home Sunday. Lovie McGiboney visited Margie Ward Saturday afternoon. Our King’s Birthday Jesus, Son of God Eternal Everlasting Lord is He, Savior of a world of sinners, Universal King to be, Sought us, bro’t us victory. Christ is due all adoration, Humbly born to save our race, Ruler of the whole creation, Intercedes and gives us grace, Saves us from sin’s condemnation. Truly worthy of all praise!
