By Leila Dycus intern The Swim Dogs were back in the water this weekend after starting their season off in Athens in November. On Saturday Dec. 7 the swim team returned to host a meet in Morgan County. Three teams competed including Eastside and Salem High Schools. According to Coach DeLaigle, the team placed second out of the three teams. The girls took first place while the guys were second. The team was missing many of their starters due to the SAT. Although there were no state qualifying times at this meet many swimmers improved their times. Kylie Harris improved her 50-yard freestyle by 00.10.34. Ellie Conn improved her 100-yard freestyle by 00.11.23. Yakira Chapman improved her 500-yard freestyle time by 00.09.05 and Chan Courchaine improved his 100-yard backstroke by 00.05.67. The Swim Dogs brought home many first places against Eastside and Salem. The Girl’s 200 yard Medley Relay comprised of Kilee Norman, Carolina Zant, Grace Smith and Megan Hume took a first place this past weekend. Megan Hume took first in the Girl’s 50-yard freestyle. Zach Fossum won the 100-yard butterfly. Carolina Zant placed first in girl’s 100-yard butterfly. Grace Smith won the 500-yard freestyle. The MCHS girls won the 200-yard freestyle relay comprised of Carolina Zant, Yakira Chapman, Grace Smith and Megan Hume. Kilee Norman won the 100-yard backstroke and Carolina Zant took the 100-yard breaststroke. Coach DeLaigle said that many of the swimmers were close to qualifying for state at Saturday’s meet. The MCHS Swim Dogs will travel to UGA’s Ramsey Center Dec. 21 for their next meet.
