Move over Amber Riley, Emmitt Smith and Helio Castroneves. And make room for a new wave of dancing champs.

On Thursday, April 3, Dancing with the Lake Oconee Stars will launch its first competition at The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton.

This stellar event will benefit First Call Pregnancy Center in Greensboro. Regional professional dancers are teaming with area stars to produce an event that will be more than just a talent show.

Dancing with the Lake Oconee Stars promises to be a great night of entertainment. Even the audience will get in on the action with ongoing voting for favorite local star dancers to raise monies for First Call. One dollar equals one vote.

Preshow voting for a star dancer and professional partner has started on the website: http://www.firstcall.me, where a vote is one click away on the Dancing with the Lake Oconee Stars header.

Eleven local stars will partner with professional dancers to perform routines of all genres. A strong contender for the disco ball trophy is Madison attorney Joe Reitman.

Because Joe’s wife has a long affiliation with the work of First Call, he is very familiar with the focus and approach of the Center. Totally committed to this fundraiser, Joe explains, “First Call Pregnancy Center shows such a tremendous love for the mothers and their babies. The Center and their dedicated volunteers are a source of unconditional love and support for these young mothers-to-be.”

Joe selected Time of My Life for his and his professional dance partner’s music because he wants unborn babies to be able to have their time of life.

Adding even more star power to the fundraiser is noted writer and speaker, Darrell Huckaby. A proud graduate of the University of Georgia, Huck is the author of 10 books and travels extensively across the South, speaking to church and civic organizations as well as corporate functions.

His down home humor will engage the audience when dancers are not taking center stage. So much lies in store with witty repartee between the judges and dancers, and it will be witty indeed with the likes of Madison’s own Erin Garrett sitting at the judges’ bench.

Onsite voting preceded by an opening performance by the talented UGA Dance Dawgs will keep the energy high. For tickets and other information, call 706-453-1908.

Tickets go on sale March 17. Event date: Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton. Dancing with the Lake Oconee Stars promises to be a great night of fun while helping First Call Pregnancy Center promote life.
