MCHS soccer completes Trojan competition

The MCHS Varsity Soccer teams finished up their tournament in Lamar County last Saturday, Feb. 22. The girls faced Upson Lee Saturday at 9 a.m., and the boys took on Upson Lee as well, beginning at 4 pm.

The girls played Upson for fifth place in the Trojan Cup tournament Saturday After two weeks of difficult games, the girls came prepared to take out the Knights.

In the first half both teams struggled to put points on the board, and with eight minutes left in the first half, Upson scored.

Morgan County worked hard to answer the point but was unsuccessful. Upson achieved another goal with less than one minute to go in the first half to put the Knights ahead 2-0 at the end of the first half.

Upson maintained control of the game during the second half of the game as well. Morgan County’s goalie made an incredible stop to hold the score at 2-0, but, in the middle of the second quarter, Upson again scored on the Bulldogs.

Finally, the Knights scored a penalty kick near the end of the game to put them up on the Dogs 4-0 The Bulldogs’ loss knocked them out of contention for fifth place in the tournament.

Morgan County’s boys went on to play Upson’s boys at 4p.m. The score for the boys’ game was not available at press time.

This varsity soccer teams will play their first home games of the season next Tuesday, March 4, against Putnam County, with the girls’ game beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the boys’ game beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The JV soccer team will play at home today, Feb, 27 against Hart County.
