A Madison man died tragically during an adult league basketball game at the Morgan County Recreation Department last week.

According to Morgan County Coroner Adam Carter, Wayne Brown, 40, was pronounced dead at Morgan Memorial Hospital last Wednesday night after he had been rushed to the hospital by EMS workers. Lance Alexander, director, Morgan County Recreation Department, said Brown had taken a shot during a basketball game at approximately 8 p.m. before he took a couple of steps and collapsed on the court.

Alexander said Jonathan White, a Morgan County first responder, was in the stands and attended to Brown immediately, providing CPR while paramedics were called.

Alexander said emergency workers arrived within nine minutes of Brown’s collapse and that he was transported to Morgan Memorial Hospital three minutes later.

A defibrillator kept at the rec department was also used in an attempt to revive Brown. Carter said he was waiting on autopsy results before a cause of death would be officially determined.
