MCMS track takes on Jasper, Carver at first home meet of the 2014 season last week

The Morgan County Middle School track team hosted a meet last Wednesday, March 26 in Morgan County against Jasper County Middle School and Carver Middle School. The Morgan County girls came in second just behind Jasper with a total of 55 points, while the boys came in third with 19 points. The girls scored 55 points during the meet, while Jasper came in first with 57 points and Carver took third with 30 points. Morgan Robertson placed first in the girls’ high jump with a height of four foot, four inches, and Melissa Braxley took third in the event with a height of three foot, eight inches. Aris Hubbard took first place in the girls’ long jump with a distance of 16 foot, 10 inches while Tyra Green took third with a distance of 13 foot, eight inches.

Natalie Smith placed third in the discus throw with a distance of 48 foot. The Morgan County relay team took first in the 4×100 relay with a time of 52.25. Abigail Glass took second in the girls’ 1600-meter run with a time of 6:51, and Mattie Allen took third with a time of 6:59. Brittney Sumler won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:12.3, and Aris Hubbard took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.58. Melissa Braxley took second in the girls’ 800-meter race with a time of 3:11, and Emily Dickson placed third with a time of 3:13. The Morgan County relay teams also took first and third in the 4×400-meter relay with times of 5:13 and 5:42, respectively.

The Morgan County boys placed third with 19 points behind Jasper and Carver with 63 and 66 points, respectively. The Morgan County boys’ relay team placed second in the 4×400-meter race with a time of 4:23. Logan Eaton placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.50. Alex Rountree took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.25. The MCMS track team’s next meet will be the Piedmont Athletic Conference championship on April 19.
