Annual Chicken BBQ on April 26, at Heritage Park

Missed writing last week, but was sick, no church for me, thus, no news. Still not a lot as I missed this Sunday morning service also, but did get there for the evening worship service.  And I want to thank Phil Reid for filling in for me on the piano. Love to hear him play and so sorry I missed that and so sorry I missed some special visitors I had invited.

Please come back soon. Beautiful weather out there but so yellow and bad on throats, the nose and the breathing so try to keep your mouth closed while outside. That stuff has a way of sneaking in and irritating the throat.  Some of us are getting the itch to start a garden. I THINK it’s still a little early. Had a good choir practice on Sunday afternoon to lead up to our Easter services. What a great season we are headed for this next weekend.

I love Easter and all that it means to us. Not just the candy, games, new clothes, etc,  but the holy time in our Lord Jesus’ life. What a promise this means to us.   Thrills my heart to think of what He did for me as He traveled that last mile up Calvary’s hill. Butch took his message from Jude on Sunday night. He will be speaking on this first chapter for several weeks on Sunday nights. The beautiful fresh flowers arranged by Eleanor Johnson were taken from her friend,  Martha’s garden. We do appreciate all the fresh flowers that Miss Ellie places each week. So many times we fail to say a “thank you”, and it means so much.

If you are not settled in a good God fearing church at this time, visit with us this Easter Sunday. It should be a special time as it is in all our neighboring churches. Our service begins at 10 a.m. with Sunday School classes for all ages,  worship service at 11 a.m..   Usually evening service at 6 a.m., but we will not have services this Sunday night. We have so much planned in the future weeks beginning with our annual chicken barbecue coming up on April 26th at the BBQ shelter at Heritage Park. This is one of the largest fund raisers of the year and we still have a lot to do to our new church sanctuary in the future.

Have you purchased your tickets yet?   You’ll get half a chicken,  chips, slaw, baked beans, bread, dessert and a drink all for $8.00….and that is a good deal, plus it is delicious.   We should begin serving around 11 a.m. or so. Take it with you or eat it there. So if you will, come and enjoy and help a worthy project.   We will also have a few cakes to sell. I did hear we had several visitors on Sunday. I love that “visitor” word.

You are always welcomed and hope you received a blessing. Coming up on May 2 there will be a Girl’s Lock-In…No boys…More details later. They always have a great time. Recently a surprise birthday celebration was given for Cindy Smith with all her family as well as many friends present. I won’t tell her age, but I think it’s wide spread how young she is. Our ladies are planning to visit at the Oconee House this Tuesday night.

This is a joy for the patients as well as a blessing for us. Congratulations to Wendy Patterson on the birth of a new little granddaughter. And to Basil Weathers and Kayla Bennett, Dalton and Aleigna who welcomed little Miss Karen Camilla on April 13th. Haven’t mentioned lately, but there is always the big ABC Auction at Crawfordville on Saturday nights. This week Rodney Bowles will be back with all his great bargains. You can plan to eat at Pat’s Snack Bar. Food ready at 4:30,  sale at 6 p.m. We had a great weekend as we journeyed up to Cornelius, North Carolina on Friday for a surprise birthday celebration for our daughter Jill.   And she was surprised. I had baked her favorite chocolate cake and she enjoyed her gifts and both her sons and family with her. We had a house full but so much a good time.

On Sunday morning we celebrated Olivia’s birthday with a special breakfast. She turned 10. My great grands are growing up too quickly.  They all played Putt-putt golf after breakfast Saturday morning,  then Saturday night was bowling. A full, busy time and one tired old gal here, but such joy. Now, looking forward to this coming week end when some of these North Carolina kids will be coming in on Thursday night. Saturday most of the family will gather here for lunch and an egg hunt for the great grands……Love these times.

Belated birthday wishes for Basil Weathers on the 11th, Casandra Waddell the 15th, Jill Luciani, my daughter the 16th.  Happy birthday to Reubin Morrow the 19th,  and to Cindy Jackson. She, as I do, celebrates all month.  We have so many that need special prayer,  please remember these unspoken as you pray. As I close my column this week,  let us remember the reason why we do have an Easter celebration and I wish each of you as you gather with your loved ones a most joyous day.  So until next week may the Lord bless you real good.
