MCHS girls golf places third at region tourney

The Morgan County High School girls’ golf team took third place in the 8-AAA region playoff this past Monday, April 14, at the Double Oaks golf course in Commerce. The girls placed just behind North Oconee and Jackson County with a total score of 293. North Oconee won the event with a score of 237, and Jackson took second with 266. Mary Clark Ferguson led the Morgan County girls during the region playoff with a score of 89.

Hayden Massey followed after Ferguson with a 98, while Kayla Fortune and Shelby Kichen earned 106 and 109, respectively. Since the girls placed in the top four in the region, they will be moving on to the AAA Sectionals, which will take place at the Springhill Country Club in Tifton on May 8 Last Saturday, the MCHS boys’ golf team took third among 14 teams in Warner Robbins Eagle Invitational at the Landings Golf Club.

The Dogs placed third with a 335, and Thomas County Central won the match with a 315. Carson Womack and Gregory Pecore tied low with each scoring 80, which Zack Webb earned an 85 and Baylie Fowler posted a 90. The boys played on Tuesday at Highland Walk against Franklin County, and they will be traveling back to Highland Walk again next Tuesday, April 22, to compete in the 8-AAA region playoff round.
