Danger Stopped: Morgan County Sheriff Robert Markley brought a high–speed chase to an end Thursday when the suspect attempted to pass Markley on Confederate Road in Madison and was rammed into a ditch. According to Markley, Jeffery Legree Rivers, 45, (right) initiated the chase in Walton County near Fairplay Road when Walton County authorities attempted to stop Rivers in a white sedan that matched the description that had been used earlier in a string of burglaries in Walton County.

The chase ran from Walton County, through Rutledge and up Dixie Highway before the sheriff brought the dangerous chase to a halt at approximately 3:30 p.m. Rivers, a Madison resident, faces a host of charges in Walton County, Morgan County and by the Georgia State Patrol. According to Markley, speeds in the chase exceeded 80 mph. Rivers faces felony traffic charges including driving with a suspended license, reckless driving and speeding. PHOTOS BY P.YOST
