Morgan County deputy arrested by Newton cops

A Morgan County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested Monday, April 21 by Newton County authorities and charged with aggravated child molestation. According to a press release isued by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Daniel McGinnis was arrested and charged and is currently suspended without pay from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office pending an internal investigation into the allegations and arrest.

Capt. Chris Bish said McGinnis had been hired at the sheriff’s office on March 17, 2014. According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the mother of female juvenile alleged on March 27, 2014 that McGinnis was involved with some type of child abuse that had occurred between January, 2006 and December, 2011. The report does not specify abuse allegations but it does specify that McGinnis was arrested and charged based on “testimonial evidence.” The press release concerning the arrest states that “the allegations against him did not occur while he was employed with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. Bish said McGinnis was initially housed at the Newton County Adult Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing on Wednesday but had to be moved to a Rockdale County facility for his safety after an altercation with inmates in Newton.
