• Prayer Day The Lake Oconee Baptist Chapel (at 2411 Reids Ferry Road, Buckhead, GA) will be open and the Pastor will be available for the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 1st, from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm to pray with you.  We invite you to stop by for prayer and comfort.

May 1 Through May 3

• Madison in May Spring Tour of Homes & Gardens. Historic Madison, Georgia, renowned for one of the largest historic districts in the state, will celebrate the 2014 spring season in grand style May 1-3 with the region’s most popular tour event:  the Madison in May Spring Tour of Homes and Gardens.  A collection of the city’s finest, architecturally significant homes (1810 – 1996) and intimate gardens will be available to tour attendees, allowing visitors to take a step back in time and experience the living Southern history of Madison.  Included in this year’s tour collection are four historic houses owned by the Morgan County Historical Society and the Morgan County Landmarks Society, the 1895 graded school building which houses the tour host – the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, and five Madison churches.  Together, these grand structures and gardens tell the story of a genteel, gracious city – Madison, Georgia.  This truly will be a tour to remember! • Madison Artist Guild “First Friday” On May 2nd come out and shop local from 5:00pm-8:00pm! The Madison Artists Guild Gallery, Ava Alexander, I. Bowman Gallery, and Artisans Alley will be hosting the third “First Friday Event!” Be sure to come out and shop local! The Madison Artists Guild Gallery will have the doors open from 5:00pm-8:00pm on Friday, May 2nd at 217 W. Jefferson St. Stroll through Town Park while on your way to visit Ava Alexander. There will be complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres and as always great company and shopping. At the Madison Artists Guild Gallery the theme will be “Home” and we will have door prizes!

• The American Legion Post 37 is sponsoring a Chicken Barbecue Plate dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can eat there at the rec. Dept. Picnic helter located at Heritage Park or you can get it to go at the Aquatic Center Parking Lot. For more information contact Jim NeSmith at 706-342-2177.

• Morgan County Relay for Life at the Dupree Track. Survivor Dinner begins at 5p.m. Opening ceremony begins at 6:30p.m.

• Classical Music that Rocks, FREE Family Concert & Bike Parade The 12th Annual Madison Chamber Music Festival will continue with a bike parade and FREE concert for the young and young at heart on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center.  Come hear the wildly engaging Brooklyn Rider String Quartet!  These young men are not your typical group of musicians – they are known for exciting daredevil performances that draw rare reviews from classical, world, and rock critics alike!  The afternoon starts with a State Farm bike safety talk and bike parade at 3:15 PM.  Decorate your bikes and compete for “Most Musical” and “Most Madison.”  Join us following the 4:00 PM Concert in the Cultural Center’s Auditorium for an old-fashioned ice cream social on the Center’s front lawn.  Visit the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center’s website for more information, www.mmcc-arts.org or call (706) 342-4743.

• Brooklyn Rider Mother’s Day Concert at Town 220 Restaurant Join us for a Mother’s Day dinner concert with the Brooklyn Rider String Quartet at Town 22o Restaurant on Sunday, May 11, 2014; 5:00 PM Dinner, 6:45 PM Concert.   These energetic young men have been described as “young rock stars jamming on their guitars, a Beethoven-goes-indie foray into making classical music accessible but also celebrating why it was good in the first place.” – Pittsburg Post-Gazette. This concert is part of the 12th Annual Madison Chamber Music Festival and the Emerald Cello Sponsors are Alla & Charles Campbell and Nancy & Steve Mauro.  Concert tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.mmcc-arts.org or by calling the Cultural Center (706) 342-4743.  A special $30 buffet dinner is offered by Town 220 – reservations are required for dinner; please call Town 220 at (706) 752-1445.

• Design Your Dream Dress 10a.m.-12p.m. Steffen Thomas Museum of Art presents their Design Your Dream Dress Family Workshop. Rita Knight guides this one-of-a-kind workshop that pairs up Mother-Daughter teams to create a Dream Dress painted on canvas which can be used as a great décor item that is also a very personal fashion statement! Express your fashion runway inner voice at this fun project for moms and their best “gal pals” to make together and keep as a memento of their special bond that lasts a lifetime! • Morgan County High School Classes of 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1952 will have their annual combined class reunion on May 17, 2014.  Arrangements have been made for a buffet meal at Bonner’s Restaurant in Buckhead and is scheduled for 12:30.  Please plan to be there early, visit, eat and enjoy!
